Prof. Kibwana To Run For Makueni Senator's Seat

Prof Kibwana

Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana has finally shelved his presidential ambitions and focused his eyes on capturing the county senate seat.

Our desk can today authoritatively report that Kibwana, who has served his two terms as governor will be going for the senate seat, currently held by Mutula Kilonzo Jnr.

Our resident moles in Makueni who are close to the outgoing governor indicate that already a chilling warning has been sounded to Mutula Jnr to get something else to do or perish in the wilderness after the coming polls on August 9.

"Yes he is going for that seat and I can assure you Makueni residents will vote for him overwhelmingly. He wants to continue fighting for devolution but this time at the Senate after successfully running the county as governor for two terms," revealed one of our moles.

Kibwana's decision has left the current senator at cross roads not knowing whether to defend his seat and wait to be made  minced meat by Kibwana or run for the governor's seat as advised by some of his Facebook supporters.

Our sources indicate that Mutula Jnr is not keen on running for the governor's seat since he is not assured of victory due to his lack of Strong grassroot networks.

The governor's seat has attracted political bigwigs such as Professor Philip Kaloki, Kibwezi West MP Patrick Musimba, the county woman Rep Rose Museo as well as Pastor cum lawyer Mbevi. Some in Mutula's corner are also nudging him to give it a shot.

"That boy will be a mince meat for Kibwana should he insist on defending the senator's seat. He had better get something else to do," another source pointed out, revealing that Kibwana would not backtrack on that decision. Asked what position Mutula should contest, the source was terse.

"It is not for us to tell him what seat he should run for. He can go for an MCA seat for all we care. What is clear is that our eyes are firmly trained on the senator's position and we shall sweep it," remarked the governor's confidant.

A ruthless grassroots mobilizer of repute who combines this trait with soft activism, Kibwana is set to turn the tables in Makueni county as it is also rumoured that, through his Muungano party, he has drawn up a line up that will compete against Wiper and any other party for all the county positions.

Curiously, Mutula Jnr is reportedly working clandestinely with Makueni MP Dan Maanzo to stop Kibwana in his tracks and extinguish his ambition of becoming the county senator.

Maanzo has told his close confidants that should Kibwana go for the senator's seat, he (Maanzo) will also contest for the same position in order to vanquish the outgoing governor.

Who will blink first? Stay tuned.
