Growth: Kitui Revenue Surges Towards Ksh1 Billion Mark
Our Reporter
Kitui County’s own-source revenue (OSR) has risen steadily, signaling stronger financial discipline and better systems.
Under the administration of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, the county has nearly tripled its local revenue collections—from about KSh 370 million in earlier years to over KSh 900 million.
This revenue growth reflects deliberate reforms aimed at tightening revenue systems and sealing loopholes.
County officials confirmed the progress while appearing before the County Assembly Public Investments and Accounts Committee, where members reviewed audit queries raised by the Office of the Auditor-General.
Members of the committee lauded Governor Malombe's administration, noting that the county is now edging closer to the KSh 1 billion own-source revenue milestone.
Governor Malombe's administration has rolled out digital reforms designed to modernize how the county tracks and collects revenue.
Two systems are playing a key role.
The Lands Information Management System (LIMS), which is expected to streamline land records and unlock land rates revenue.
The other is the County Revenue Management System, popularly known as “Zizi,” which has improved monitoring and accountability in daily collections.
"These changes are gradually tightening revenue administration while reducing leakages" county officials explain.
