The just-ended retreat between the County Executive and the County Assembly at Pride Inn Hotel at the Kenyan Coast has been hailed as a huge success.
The two arms of the Kitui County Government resolved to work harmoniously, each respecting the other’s constitutional mandate.
Governor Julius Malombe, who addressed the joint consultative forum before briefing the press, underlined that his administration will now channel focus into three priority sectors aimed at transforming livelihoods.
The sectors earmarked by Malombe’s administration are Health, Water, and Roads. The Governor pledged commensurate budget allocations in these departments to drive impactful grassroots programmes.
"Going forward, we are going to rationalize our resources to focus on Health, Water, and Roads," Governor Malombe affirmed.
On roads, the County boss said his administration will open, grade, and gravel more feeder roads to boost connectivity.
"In the Water sector, we will endeavor to reduce the distance to water access to a maximum of 2 km radius," he added.
Operationalize completed health facilities
Turning to Health and Sanitation, Malombe announced plans to operationalize 34 facilities so that every village has access to timely, affordable, and quality healthcare.
He further revealed that the Kitui Agricultural Show and Trade Fair will take place from February 26–28, 2026, while the launch of the Kitui Tourism Circuit is set for September 27, 2025.
To strengthen revenue, the Governor pledged to fully automate all county revenue streams and boost Own Source Revenue.
The County Assembly, on its part, undertook to closely consult and collaborate with the Executive in the interest of Kitui residents.
