The change has been necessitated by the fact that the Kitui County FY 2026/2027 budget is yet to be cleared by the Controller of Budget (CoB).  The county budget was submitted to the County Assembly on time, but the approval process took longer than anticipated, consequently affecting the release and availability of funds for the County Government activities. The County Executive Committee Member for Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports and Social Services Phoebe Mutemi said a total of 16 teams — eight for men and eight for women, will battle it out during the finals. The sporting event is being organized by the County Government in conjunction with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF). The Governor’s Cup began at the village level, with teams progressing through the ward and sub-county stages to earn their place in the now scheduled finals.  The journey now culminates in what promises to be a spectacular showcase of football talent. Governor Malombe with Kitui bodaboda men Our Reporter   Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has intensified efforts to professionalize the boda boda sector after 783 motorcycle riders from all the 40 wards received Smart Driving Licences. The initiative to empower the bodaboda operators was done under a partnership between the County Government of Kitui and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA). Speaking during the issuance ceremony at KEFRI Grounds, Governor Malombe said the initiative is designed to promote road safety, improve professionalism and accountability among riders, and enhance their livelihoods. He described the programme as a major step towards transforming the boda boda industry into a safer, well-organized and economically viable sector. Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Malombe said the installation of the traffic lights is aimed at bringing order to one of the town's busiest junctions, which has been prone to road accidents, while improving the smooth flow of traffic as Kitui continues to experience rapid growth.
