Governor Malombe Unveils Traffic Lights to Enhance Safety & Order in Kitui Town

Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has today commissioned traffic lights within Kitui town, marking a major milestone in the transformation of Kitui Town into a modern, orderly and safer urban centre.


Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Malombe said the installation of the traffic lights is aimed at bringing order to one of the town's busiest junctions, which has been prone to road accidents, while improving the smooth flow of traffic as Kitui continues to experience rapid growth.


"Our town is growing and we must plan for its future. These traffic lights will enhance road safety, improve traffic management and support our vision of building a well-planned, modern town," said the Governor.


Roads and Public Works County Executive Committee Member Reuben Itiko said the county designed and implemented the traffic light system, which is equipped with traffic cameras and linked to a state-of-the-art control room to enhance traffic monitoring and management.


The project is another testament to Governor Malombe's visionary leadership which has given Kitui Town a new face through strategic urban development initiatives.


Waziri Itiko urged motorists and pedestrians to obey the traffic signals, adding that those who violate traffic rules should face appropriate penalties to ensure order is maintained.


Representing the public transport sector, Kitui Matatu and Bodaboda Association Chairman Bosnia and Kitui Bodaboda Association Chairman Kelvin Kivala welcomed the project, noting that it will improve safety and reduce congestion within the town.


Kivala urged bodaboda operators to strictly comply with the traffic lights to promote discipline and safeguard all road users.


The commissioning of the traffic lights underscores the County Government's commitment to creating a safer, smarter and more organised urban environment as Kitui continues its journey towards sustainable urban growth.
