The much anticipated Kitui Agricultural Show & Trade Fair - which was slated to happen this July - has been rescheduled to February next year.

Kitui County CECM for Agriculture Mbaya Kimwele made the announcement to the media this morning where he urged the county residents to be a little patient following the rescheduling of the event.

The County Minister said that the little delay was occasioned by renovation works being done at Ithookwe Showgrounds to transform it into modern international stadium.

The national government in close collaboration with the Kitui County Government is revamping the iconic Ithookwe Showgrounds to give it an international image.

"The renovation works at Ithookwe Showgrounds is part of a broader initiative to position Kitui as a hub for regional events and economic growth," Kimwele observed.

This is not a cancellation of the Agricultural Show & Trade Fair but a strategic delay,” Kimwele assured residents.

He noted that once complete, the new stadium will not only host agricultural exhibitions but also national and international events.

"It also gives us enough time to prepare for the event and meke it better. February is a good month because farmers will have harvested," he explained.

Innovate in Agriculture, farmers told -

Meanwhile, the County minister has urged Kitui farmers to embrace modern farming and practice Climate Smart Agriculture aimed at improving food security.

Kimwele emphasized the urgent need to adopt practices such as integrated farming systems and to focus on drought-resistant crops like sorghum, millet, cowpeas, cassava and green grams.

Climate change is here with us. We must farm wisely to feed our families and secure our livelihoods. It is time for our farmers to innovate," the minister observed.
