Governor Julius Malombe today (Thursday) evening hosted his Garissa counterpart Nadhif Jama at Nguni market for a joint peace engagement aimed at calming tensions along the troubled Mwingi–Garissa highway.
The meeting, brought together security agencies, local leaders, and residents and came in the wake of Tuesday’s tragic killing of 14-year-old James Mutemi.
Mutemi was hacked to death by suspected Somali camel herders—an incident that has shaken the community and heightened fears in the region.
In a deeply emotional moment, Governor Malombe took time to personally console the grieving mother of the fallen young boy.
“Pole sana mama. This was our child and we are all traumatized by his tragic death,” Governor Malombe told the grieving mother.
The County boss assured her that his administration will stand firmly with her family during this difficult mourning period.
Jama echoes Malombe's peace message
Garissa Governor Nadhif Jama echoed the message of solidarity, and also extended comfort and support to the bereaved mother.
"We have lived peacefully with Kambas for a long time. Even when I was a child, my teachers in Garissa were Kambas. It's sad that a few criminals want to breach that peace," stated Governor Jama.
He called on the authorities to swiftly arrest the murderers and bring them to justice.
"We want to see action soonest. The more you delay the more you cause more pain," the Garissa county chief added.
More poles to kwa-kamari families
The leaders further sent heartfelt condolences to the families affected by the tragic incident at Kwa Kamari, where seven people were gunned down by armed Somali militia.
Governor Malombe took the opportunity to announce to Kitui residents, and specifically the residents of Kwa-Kamari trading centre that the national government has already deployed police officers and operationalized Kwa -Kamari police station to bolster peace in the volatile region.
kwa-Kamari police station now operational
"There is now an OCS and a battery of officers at the station. This is a good gesture from the National Government in trying to achieve lasting peace and security," Governor Malombe said.
kwa-Kamari police station is one of the six police stations constructed by Governor Malombe's administration along the restive Kitui - Tana River border to enhance peace and security.
The Governor has appealed to the National Government to operationalize all the completed police stations.
