Passengers Troop To Kinatwa Prestige As Rival Becomes Death Trap

The well managed Kinatwa Prestige is fast becoming a household name and passengers are madly in love with its services. 


As a consequence, customers have ditched Kinatwa Sacco which is notorious for bad mannered staff and endless accidents that have claimed hundreds of lives.


Keen to get better transport and parcel services, majority of the passengers have shifted to Kinatwa Prestige that has well managed offices in Mwingi town and Kitui town. Their Mwembe Tayari office in Mombasa is a beehive of activity as passengers opt to travel with the trusted entity while their rivals; Kinatwa Sacco is fast becoming a shell.



Trouble for Kinatwa Sacco started when their vehicles started flouting all known traffic rules on the road and even flouting NTSA regulations. 


It is only at Kinatwa Sacco where you find drivers dead drunk while behind the wheel, under the influence of muguka and cheap liquor. Their services are also unreliable and also operate with goons who hike fares at will.



A cross section of passengers we interviewed lamented that Kinatwa Sacco is a death trap as their vehicles are involved in weekly accidents due to recklessness. Most of their vehicles lack functional speed governors, a report by NTSA shows.



"With Kinatwa Sacco you are not sure kama utafika. They have so many accidents. It is either u die or escape with broken ribs" said Emily Wayua, a business lady who regularly plies to Nairobi. 


"If you need quality services, then Kinatwa Prestige is the place to be. Clean vehicles, well driven and friendly staff" Emily adds.


Shalom Mwambu, a teacher says he shifted to Kinatwa Prestige after surviving two accidents with Kinatwa Sacco matatus; one along Kitui Machakos road and another near Kanyonyoo towards Thika. 


"On one of the occasions the driver was on phone. He swerved to avoid an incoming lorry and we landed in a ditch. The other was reckless speeding leading to a tyre burst, prompting the vehicle to roll"  says the teacher.


He has since convinced his friends to shift to Kinatwa Prestige.


By a letter dated 2nd August 2021 from NTSA to Kinatwa Sacco, NTSA had ordered the Sacco management to give a report over high number of their vehicles with no speed governors, which has led to high cases of road accidents in Kitui, Machakos, Makueni and Taita Taveta counties.


NTSA further stated that even the vehicles installed with speed governors, the devices were faulty and were not sending signals to NTSA.


THE regulatory body urged the Sacco to take a half of their fleet for inspection, which never happened. 



It has also emerged that the acting chairman for Kinatwa Sacco is involved in dirty politics. For instance on Monday, he organized a fleet of vehicle using Sacco's funds to join Ngilu's convoy  in lower Yatta, Kitui Central and West. 


This is after the failed governor used goons to deny Kinatwa Prestige vehicles access to pick or drop passengers within the stage.

Payment of land rates   No Criminal Encroacher should attempt to Grab Dr Malombe's legally acquired land Our Reporter   Governor Julius Malombe, as a private citizen, has the legal rights to own land anywhere in the Country. The fact that he owns a parcel of land within Kitui Municipality should not be a strange thing to anyone. However, what is concerning is when another individual attempts to criminally encroach on and grab Dr Malombe's piece of land, in the hope that he will keep quiet just because he is the governor. This is the most warped thinking ever, and it is anchored on blackmail.  The plot in question is legally owned by Dr Julius Makau Malombe. It was legally allotted to him over 30 years ago. And as a law abiding citizen, Malombe has been faithfully and legally paying land rates for the said piece of land since that time to date!
