Why Ndoto Is Likely to Tip the Scale
It is only 2 days to go before KITUI County Assembly Members (MCAs) elect their Speaker. Indeed the dust is settling and the eyes are being cleared of the cobwebs.
While this is happening, some of the credible candidates have either slowed down, burnt out or simply chickened out.
This scenario has afforded George Mutua Ndoto, the current Speaker of Kitui County Assembly an opportunity to burst out like a seasoned reed by the river bank. In no time, the former minister in Moi's government will show his mettle.
... Candidates run out of steam
With notable lawyers such as BM Musyoki and Samson Masila seemingly growing cold feet on the seat, and probably running out of steam, Ndoto might indeed pull the rug off the feet.
Arguably, his main competitor as of today is one Augustus Kyalo Muli, a Dubai based businessman and a self declared millionaire with zero, or near zero touch with Kitui county reality.
If this is the only challenge that Ndoto will face at the polls, then it is almost certain that the old man will tip the scale and romp in.
Old money.
What gives Ndoto an edge in this race is the aspect of old money. Ndoto is by all means a deep pocketed man and is a politician who unleashes political missiles out of lessons learnt from the the late professor of politics - Moi. And when it comes to Kenyan politics, especially the Speaker position, money plays a pivotal role.
Experience
Ndoto's experience at the county Assembly, acquired over the last 10 years and undercurrent manouvres learnt in Nyaro era also comes in handy and he might use it to tragically knock off his competitors.
"With his old money and experience, Ndoto might scatter his competitors in the direction of the four winds. Underate him at your own peril," opines Bruce Masimba, a commentator of local politics who teaches at Methodist university.
It is curious that Ndoto did not come out early to canvass for the position among the MCAs, although he has been reaching out to them in a 'cold war' style.
Breathless & panting
Seemingly, he allowed the likes of the Dubai trader time to sprint and run out of breath in what is seemingly a marathon but which the Dubai mafioso mistook for a relay.
The man is now breathless and is panting like a dazed gazelle as Ndoto closes in to hang him by the balls.
Skymoon Desk will not be surprised if Ndoto secures a third term as Speaker - hopefully his last!
