Governor Julius Malombe’s administration Saturday evening took advantage of a live public engagement forum hosted by Radio Citizen at the Kitui Multipurpose Hall, where county officials faced residents and responded comprehensively to pressing questions on development and service delivery.

The county government delegation, led by Agriculture and Livestock Minister Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele used the interactive session to address concerns raised by wananchi on key sectors including Agriculture, Health services, Trade, Pro-poor bursaries, Water security and Infrastructure development.

During the forum, residents were given an open platform to seek clarification, air grievances and offer suggestions on how the county government can improve service delivery.

County officials in attendance - including ministers and COs - took time to explain ongoing projects, policy interventions and future plans aimed at uplifting livelihoods across the county.

Among the concerns highlighted were the need for enhanced agricultural support for farmers, improved access to clean water, drugs in health facilities, market infrastructure and regulation of sand harvesting. Other concerns were increased youth employment opportunities, improved safety for bodaboda operators as well as strengthened support for traders and students.

In response, county officials highlighted ongoing government initiatives aimed at addressing the issues raised. Among these are;

✓ Recruitment of 88 agricultural extension officers to strengthen support services for farmers.

✓ The repair and upcoming distribution of county tractors to improve access to mechanized farming.

✓ The construction of dams, water pans, and sand dams across various wards to enhance water harvesting and storage.

✓ Plans to complete Kithomboani Market and expand Kalundu Market to improve trading infrastructure and support local businesses.

✓ Continued collaboration with development partners to address youth unemployment and tackle drug abuse challenges.

Security concerns were addressed by Assistant County Commissioner Koinary Saidimu who  represented the County Commissioner.

He assured the public that measures are being taken to enhance safety along the Tana River boundary, improve policing in vulnerable areas, and support law enforcement initiatives to protect local communities and businesses.

The live public engagement was also attended by MPs Makali Mulu (Kitui Central) and Paul Nzengu (Mwingi North).
