Governor Julius Malombe has revealed that his administration has delivered 85 percent of the promises made under the “Kitui Promise” manifesto since he took office in 2022.

Speaking in Mombasa during the Kitui County Executive Working Retreat held at PrideInn Flamingo Beach Resort & Spa, the governor said his government has implemented 2,931 development projects across all the 247 villages and 40 wards in the county.

Malombe highlighted major gains in agriculture, saying the county has trained over 827,000 farmers through strengthened extension services while more than 1.1 million livestock have been vaccinated through mass animal health campaigns.

The county has also operationalized 40 ward SACCOs and revived the Kitui Agricultural Show and Trade Fair, which is now being expanded into an international investment expo.

Dozen irrigation schemes

In the water sector, the governor said his administration has expanded access to clean water through mega projects such as the Kangukangu Water Supply Project, construction of 26 sumpwells, 398 sand dams and dozens of irrigation schemes.

On healthcare, Malombe said his administration has strengthened community healthcare by equipping thousands of Community Health Promoters with smartphones, bicycles and medical kits.

He noted that the establishment of the Phangisile Mtshali Cancer Centre at the Kitui County Referral Hospital has transformed cancer care services, while ICU, HDU and renal care facilities are also being expanded to improve specialized treatment.

He cited achievements in education, including employment of 1,688 ECDE teachers on permanent and pensionable terms and bursary support benefiting over 33,000 learners.

In roads, housing and urban development, he said his government has graded over 7,000 kilometres of roads, opened new rural access routes, installed more than 2,400 solar streetlights and improved drainage and parking infrastructure in urban centres.

Progress in tourism, sports, youth empowerment

Malombe further pointed to progress in trade, tourism, sports, climate action and youth empowerment, including construction of modern markets, implementation of the Kitui Aggregation and Industrial Park, launch of the Kitui Tourism Circuit and organization of the Governor’s Cup football tournament involving hundreds of teams across the county.

"The county has also partnered with national agencies to expand rural electrification and climate resilience projects," he revealed.

The Governor said his administration remains focused on accountability, service delivery and equitable development, citing increased Own Source Revenue collection from Sh361 million in 2022 to nearly Sh1 billion in 2025.

He urged leaders and residents to continue supporting transformative projects aimed at improving livelihoods and building a prosperous Kitui County.
