Governor Julius Malombe has commissioned a new solar-powered borehole water project at Kiimani in Mutha Ward, giving residents a major boost in his efforts to to make Kitui County water secure.


The project is expected to significantly reduce the distance residents travel in search of water while ensuring a more reliable supply for households and key public institutions in the area.


Water Chief Officer Nathan Vungo explained that the solarized borehole has a consistent yield of 3,000 litres of water per hour - exactly 150, 20 litre jerricans per hour.


This yield is enough to provide the water needs for the residents of Kiimani village which has 180 households against the borehole's capacity to take care of 240 households in a day.


The project will also benefit Kiimani Comprehensive Primary School and Kiimani Secondary School, ensuring learners and staff have access to clean, safe and dependable water.


"Unlike seasonal water sources that dry up during prolonged drought, the Kiimani borehole has demonstrated a consistent yield, offering residents greater confidence in the sustainability of the water supply" Chief Officer Vungo said.


The commissioning is part of Governor Malombe’s broader efforts to strengthen water security across Kitui and bring water closer to households.


For the people of Kiimani, the project is more than just a borehole—it is a step towards shorter journeys for water, healthier families, better learning environments and improved livelihoods.


The Governor was received in the area by Mutha Ward MCA Dominic Mwamisi and was accompanied by several county ministers and chief officers.
